Week 1 - American Samoa - Upon Arrival

Malo Soifua! o a mai outou?

I am here! I am literally in samoa and let me tell you it is absolutely beautiful. I thought lake powell was the prettiest place on earth but this place competes for sure. soo it has been a pretty busy past few days so let me fill you in.

we left the MTC on sunday morning and flew to san fran and had a 7 hour layover and then flew to new zealand where we had a 3 hour layover and then we finally made it to Apia, Samoa. we spent the first night in the mission home and we had some delicious samoan food for dinner. we had training that night and the next morning and then we were all assigned to our areas. I got assigned to American Samoa! so me, Elder's Esplin, Irvine, Te'o, Zembal, and Manu hopped on this tiny plane and flew 20 minutes over the pacific to tutuila (american samoa). My companion's name is elder Lavaka and he is from Tonga. He is a buff rugby player and it pretty decent at english but it is pretty hard for me to understan him because he mumbles like none other. I don't know what it is but everyone out here mumbles hahaha. like the samoan i learned in the MTC is not what they speak out here. They all mumble and they all use k's instead of t's. They are all super nice though and what is nice out here is that most of the people understand english. So yesterday we went and visited a friend named Tasi who is going to be baptised on saturday of next week. we talked about baptism and the gift of the holy ghost and I couldn't understand anything except the scriptures being read. So at the end I talked about the gift of the holy ghost and I first stumbled through an explanation in samoan and then I switched to english and I still stumbled through it. After that we vistied the first counsilor in the ward and he bought us mcdonalds and my comp had a super long conversation with him and i understood nothing. haha It's rough man but I won't let it get me down. I have mentally prepred to drown for the next three months but that won't stop me from working as hard and as smart as I currently know how.

You guys will not believe where I am staying. I thought I would be living in a hut but I am legit staying in a mansion. like im not kidding it is an ex NFL player's mansion that he lets the missionaries stay in. we have our own room on the top floor. anyway we woke up this morning at 5 to play basketball with the members at the stake center. I went easy cuz i don't want to burn any bridges too early. it was fun. Now we are just chillin. I think we have a lesson tonight! should be fun. I am excited for what is to come!

I bet i will have a better feel for the field when I write next week. It's all so new right now.

Anyway I will email with more details and more thoughts/feelings next week.

Ou te alofa ia te outou!
