Week 1 - MTC

Talofa!

Guys this place is insane let me tell you. It's been a roller coaster of emotions from the second I got dropped off and it has calmed down a little bit since then but not much.

Soo my companion is 6 feet tall, half Samoan half Tongan named Elder Fa'amausili and he is amazing. He is 22 years old and weighs about two times as much as me haha. He was raised here in Utah and his dad speaks Samoan but he isn't fluent himself. He understand most everything so I can't wait to have him teach me a lot about the language and the culture. He is such a sweet dude! like when I first saw him I almost peed my pants but when you get to know him he is a gentle giant! I love him already. He is quiet so it took us a while to get a natural conversation but when we did it was great! We talked about basketball at first and then we started talking about music. He likes literally all the stuff I do! Smokey Robinson, Dion, Franki Vali even! It was so fun we literally talked about oldies and then old school rap for like 30 minutes before a meeting. I'm glad we found a way to connect I can't wait to get to know him better. So my district consists of 3 other companionships. The two other elders in our room are Elder Potter (No, not related to harry, Gabby), and elder williams. Both are from Utah and both are Palagi's (White Bois) like me! They are great and super ready to learn.

(I don''t have pictures today cuz I haven't really had the time and headspace to carry around a camera to take pictures at this point, But I will have some next week for sure.)

And before I forget, I've seen Elder Lemon, Orozco, Witt, Goodrich, Palmer, Crowther, and literally like infinity other elders I know so that's cool. But in all honesty it won't be real until I see Elder Bursach and Atwood in here. Can't wait to see you boys! RIP hunter have fun in Colombia ;)

Honestly though my first day and night were hard! I was tired, lost, I didn't know anyone and I just became overwhelmed with all I have to accomplish while I am here. To make it worse, my celestial comp snores like a friggin freight train so I literally got 0 minutes of sleep night one hahaha. Then last night I legit got up and slept in the halls for half the night cuz I couldn't take it. Is that allowed? MOM SEND EARPLUGS! haha bless his heart. but mom i'm serious about the plugs lets expedite it asap cha feel?

So here is the thing, I am still scared and nervous but what I am learning to do is say to myself that it is all excitement. I'm excited! I am excited for the challenge. An elder in our Branch Meeting shared a scripture that hit me hard with a wall of peace, mosiah 4:27:

"And see that all things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore all things must be done in order"

I need to calm down and be patient with myself. I won't learn the language in one day or teach a perfect lesson my first time. I know that the Lord will help me and give me little by little as I do my best and be patient with myself. So here is the formula I created for myself and all of you out there who want spiritual gainz;

diligence + patience = gainzz

I love you guys! I'll hit you back next week for some updates and some pictures.

Tofa Soifua! (Goodbye)
